Geothermal Heating & Cooling Systems in Hampton Roads

Geothermal heat pump installation and replacement for homeowners who want one of the most efficient ways to heat and cool a home.

A geothermal (ground-source) heat pump uses the steady temperature of the earth to heat and cool your home. Fluid circulating through underground loops carries heat between your home and the ground, which stays far more stable than the outdoor air through the seasons.

Because the ground is a steadier source than outside air, geothermal systems can be extremely efficient. They run quietly and keep the main equipment indoors, out of the coastal weather.

H&S Mechanical installs and replaces geothermal systems for homes in Suffolk, Isle of Wight County, Chesapeake and across our service area. If you already have a geothermal system that's due for replacement, the existing ground loop can often be reused when it's in good condition.

FAQ

Geothermal Systems: common questions

Straight answers from our team. Have another question? Give us a call.

Geothermal costs more to install than a conventional heat pump but costs less to run. Whether it makes sense depends on your property, how long you plan to stay and your energy use. We'll give you an honest assessment.

In many cases, yes. If your existing ground loop is in good condition, the indoor heat pump can usually be replaced without new drilling or trenching. We'll check the loop and the system before recommending anything.

Both are heat pumps. An air-source heat pump exchanges heat with the outdoor air, while a geothermal heat pump exchanges heat with the ground. The ground's steady temperature gives geothermal its efficiency edge, at a higher up-front cost.
